Authentic New Zealand eco tourism experience

Native Nature Tours gives you access to 3000 acres of private Maori family land in the beautiful Bay of Islands tourist region. A part of our ancestral land is still covered in rainforest, the way New Zealand used to be hundreds of years ago when the Maori first settled the country.

Native ForestAs a visitor at Native Nature Tours, you’ll get an intimate eco tourism experience of pristine New Zealand rainforest – just as the Maori first discovered this unique natural environment hundreds of years ago.

Enter the sacred world of this private indigenous rainforest

Kaitoki Reserve is an exclusive private indigenous rainforest, rich in history. It offers you an eco tourism experience that takes you right into nature and enlightens you on the strong spiritual bonds between this natural environment and the local Maori people.

A programme to remove pests from this natural environment has already achieved great results, leaving you with a healthy temperate rainforest to enjoy with us on your trek.

Enjoy peaceful evenings with the sounds of the forest

Native Nature Tours’ bush camp is a rare haven where you can enjoy New Zealand nature as it should be. You'll see and hear an abundance of wildlife – including native birds, wild goats, turkeys, pheasants, and pigs.

In the evening, you can share stories with your Maori hosts or just sit back and enjoy the idyllic atmosphere. You may even hear New Zealand's national icon – the rare, flightless kiwi – calling out in its natural habitat.

And there is nothing to be afraid of, as the New Zealand bush harbours no snakes or dangerous animals.

Live comfortably in our bush camp

Kaitoki CampNestled in an isolated private indigenous rainforest, our bush camp offers a tranquil base for you to explore this unspoilt environment.

Kaitoki Camp offers accommodation with all the basic comforts from hot showers and flush toilets to a fully sustainable kitchen. The main building, Hamiora, serves as communal dining room. Here you can enjoy delicious meals made from the freshest local produce, accompanied with ingredients from our organic farm.

A traditional welcome at our own family marae

Nestled in the foothills of our sacred mountain lies Waimahae, our family marae – our traditional gathering place and the metaphorical heart beat of our family. We will welcome you here at our marae and give you an up close and personal experience of what this place means to us.
